About Tenantry
Tenantry Farm sits where Salisbury Plain meets Cranborne Chase, with evidence of human occupation stretching back to prehistoric and Roman times. Once uncultivated downland owned by the Earls of Shaftesbury, it was transformed into productive arable land during WWII.
A landscape steeped in history
The farm was purchased by the Downton Tanning Company in the 1950s, whose manager was Michael Richardson. He later bought the farm from the DTC and set about planting the hundreds of beech trees that are now such a feature of the farm. Since 1972, Rob McLeod has run Tenantry as a thriving arable and equestrian farm, with a strong focus on sustainability. Now, Michael Richardson’s granddaughters are taking an active role in running the farm, continuing its equestrian legacy alongside conservation and farming commitments.
